We really can’t think of any reason why you shouldn’t choose us. As a family-owned business that cares about our communities, we have served southwest Michigan since 1902. We have worked hard to earn a reputation based on our responsive customer service and professionalism. We give back to our communities in many ways, including our effort to fight cancer through our participation in the annual “Real Men Wear Pink” fundraiser and City’s own “Flush Out Cancer” event. The event raises considerable funds for Berrien County Cancer Service (and causes a lot of laughs on State Street!). Our products are high quality and renowned around the world. Do we really need to say more?
Our business hours are 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. from Monday through Friday.
We are at 407 State Street in beautiful downtown St. Joseph, Michigan. Click on the map at right for exact directions from your location to ours.
The acronym stands for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning–which are the three primary functions of a home system that control air temperature and humidity, and maintain the quality of the air in the home.
It’s a great question since the size of your system is very important in optimizing your comfort. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer because no one size fits all. It is important to work with an HVAC professional like you’ll find at City Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning. To design an appropriate system, our sales staff will consider the size of your structure as well as many other facets, including windows, insulation, ductwork, venting and more.
City Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning sells and installs a full line of plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment from the world’s most well-respected manufacturers. You can buy with confidence when you purchase equipment from us because we choose our product line based on their solid performance, durability, and quality.
City Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning capitalizes on the scale of the combined purchasing power of the Linc network. Sounds logical, doesn’t it? Alas, it’s not the right thing to do. Your HVAC system is designed for your structure, so when you close off rooms, the system will have to work extra hard to run efficiently – and you’ll be wasting money instead of saving it!
The time of the year and your individual “comfort zone” are both factors, but thermostats are generally set at 70 to 74 both winter and summer. Unless you are going to be out of the house for a long time, it is unwise to change settings by more than 50 or the equipment will have to work extra hard to reach your desired in-home setting. An electronic, programmable thermostat is more accurate than a thermostat using mercury, and you can also program the thermostat so that it varies by time of day without you having to remember to change the setting.
No! Covering you air conditioner only encourages rodents. Since ice is the greatest culprit in damaging an air conditioner, placing a piece of plywood on top of it, weighted by a brick or similar object, serves the most useful purpose.
We recommend two times a year at a minimum but quarterly is best.

You should replace it. R22 is not only expensive and harmful to the environment but it is also being phased out.
You shouldn’t try to clean the pad since a wetting agent has been applied to the pad to increase humidity. Replace the pad annually.
